CARC Lab
Become a part of a scholarly community encompassing art history, archaeology, museum education, conservation, and related sciences, along with scholars from diverse fields. These scholars engage in dynamic and interdisciplinary projects that necessitate in-depth examination of objects within CARC.
CARC annually grants over four fellowships to scholars worldwide. Our primary educational objective is to establish CARC as a hub for artistic exploration and intellectual inquiry. Consequently, we provide support for academic investigations into art collections spanning over five decades from across the globe, contributing to broader scholarly dialogues.
CARC fellowships cater to a wide range of scholars, including junior researchers, postdoctoral fellows, senior academics, and museum professionals, facilitating independent studies and research endeavors.
CARC LAB/2024: The Alchemy of Media – Bridging Painting, Photography, and Sculpture
At CARC LAB, art is not confined to a single medium—it is an evolving dialogue between painting, photography, and sculpture, where each discipline informs and reshapes the other. Through material exploration and historical inquiry, the lab fosters a multidimensional approach to art, revealing how visual languages intersect across time and technique.
Painting captures the essence of form, evoking emotions and narratives through texture and pigment. Photography, once considered merely a tool for documentation, has become an extension of the painted image, freezing moments in time while deconstructing reality. Sculpture, as a physical manifestation of space and volume, breathes life into both, allowing painting and photography to find structure in the three-dimensional realm.
CARC LAB stands at the crossroads of these media, offering scholars and artists a space to experiment, reinterpret, and challenge traditional artistic boundaries. Through its fellowships and research initiatives, the lab cultivates a scholarly ecosystem where art historians, archaeologists, conservators, and interdisciplinary thinkers engage with the materiality of objects, unlocking new narratives through cross-media interactions.
Whether it is a painting echoing sculptural reliefs, a photograph layered like a canvas, or a sculpture imbued with the stillness of a captured image, CARC LAB is a space where art speaks across disciplines, forging a continuous dialogue between past, present, and future.
